Success Tip #7:
How To Make Your Own Opportunities!
Have you heard of the statement, "When opportunity comes knocking at your door… no one was home?"
If so, let me ask you this: If you weren’t home when opportunity knocked, then where were you?
I believe you (and most people) were actually home when it knocked, but because you weren’t prepared for it, you didn’t recognize it when it came.
Without the proper preparation, no matter how loudly opportunity knocks at your door, you won’t hear it.
While not all of us are presented with the same opportunities, when you’re prepared and are looking for them, you’ll find them more often than you can possibly imagine.
Opportunities are everywhere. All you have to do is learn how to recognize them. The best way for to recognize and take advantage of them is to be ready for them, whatever they may be.
Whether it’s landing the perfect job, meeting the man or woman of your dreams, or being elected as chairman of the board of your company.
Even though planning for an opportunity doesn’t guarantee you’ll encounter it, it will increase your chance enormously.
Listen to what Whitney Young, Jr., said:
"It’s better to be prepared for an opportunity and not to have one,
than to have one and not be prepared for it."
Francis Bacon suggested, "A wise man makes more opportunities than he finds."
H. Jackson Brown, the author of the best-selling series, Life’s Little Instruction Book, observed, "Opportunity dances with those who are ready on the dance floor."
Like me, you’ve probably known or heard of someone who was presented with an incredible opportunity. But because they weren’t prepared for it, they couldn’t capitalize on it.
Perhaps this situation has even happened to you.
Isn’t it amazing how the people who are prepared seem to attract all kinds of opportunities, while those who aren’t, can’t even find one, no matter how long or hard they search for it?
Johnny Carson advised, "Talent alone won’t make you a success. Neither will being in the right place at the right time, unless you are ready. The most important question is: "Are your ready?"
Ask yourself this question, "If you were presented with the opportunity of your lifetime tomorrow, what will it be, and will you be prepared to take advantage of it?"
If you aren’t ready for the opportunity of your lifetime, that’s probably why you missed or haven’t run into it. I suggest you start preparing for it today. Otherwise, it may never arrive or you might not recognize it when it does.
Unfortunately, this is what happens to a lot of people.
Can you guess what's the term most people use to describe a person who seems to encounter one fabulous break after another?
You’re absolutely right, if you said...
LUCKY!
To me, LUCK means, "Laboring Under Correct Knowledge."
When someone is working hard and smart, they seem to attract all sorts of luck.
If you want to have more luck, commit to studying, to practicing, and to preparing for whatever you want to achieve.
For example, if you aren’t happy with the job you’re currently doing and want to work in another position or career that you aren't qualified for right now, then attend a course or training program. So when your desired job is available, you’ll be ready for it.
Please don’t do what most people do. They simply sit on their duffs and wish they could have a better job, make more money, live in a better house, meet nicer people, or be more lucky.
Instead, take responsibility for creating your own luck by preparing yourself as fully as you possibly can. When you do, you’ll find opportunities floating around everywhere for you to grab.
My best to you,
Larry Lee
